A Skate Play in Palestine
A SKATE PLAY BRINGS STORYTELLING AND SKATEBOARDING TOGETHER ACROSS THE GLOBE
This unprecedented theatrical experience aims to socially engage youth in public skateparks worldwide.
Currently, we are in Jayyous, Palestine rehearsing and showcasing this original skate-theatre production and providing a playful, innovative platform for community-based creative exploration for the local youth.
HOW MUCH IS THIS COSTING AND HOW ARE WE SPENDING THE BUDGET?
HOW MUCH DO WE STILL NEED TO RAISE?
Thanks to the generosity of many, we have raised about 80% of our budget.
Meaning -- we have $15,000 more to raise!
Please consider making a tax-deductible donation here. Any amount helps!
WHAT DOES A SKATE PLAY LOOK LIKE?
Follow along on Facebook and Instagram as we post pics and videos during our rehearsals...but for now, here is a little look into this innovative form of performing arts and imaginative use of public space from our initial workshop presentation in NYC in 2015:
KEY ARTISTIC AND PRODUCTION TEAM:
LOCAL PARTNERS:
SkateQilya A youth empowerment program that uses skateboarding and art as tools to teach community building and leadership skills to Palestinian girls and boys in the West Bank. In the summer of 2017, SkateQilya partnered with the Scottish-based non-profit, SkatePal to build a 600 square-metered concrete skate park in the village of Jayyous. This park is the site of A SKATE PLAY.
The Freedom Theatre A theatre and cultural center located in the Jenin refugee camp, occupied Palestine. The Freedom Theatre’s vision is a cultural resistance movement at the core of a free and critical Palestinian society. Through cultural resistance, they aim to raise a new generation that is able to challenge all forms of oppression.
