Honoring Dr. Paul Browning and the Renfrow Family
In April of this year, the Horry County Board of Education approved the naming of two facilities at Socastee High School to recognize the contributions of Dr. Paul K. Browning, former principal, and the Renfrow Family - Tim, Suzanne, Ayres, Chelsea, Jordan, Hunter, Cole, and Joy. With the combined service to the school and community of over 50 years, these individuals have left a legacy of excellence that will serve as an inspiration for our students and community for many years to come.
Dr. Browning served as Principal for 19 years and through his efforts the school made tremendous strides in all areas. He fought to improve our facilities and was a cheerleader for all students to achieve success in life. His simple motto of "Hang In There" reminded students that life is not a sprint, but a marathon and that success often depends on perserverance.
Tim Refrow served as the Athletics Director and coached various sports for 35 years at Socastee High. Suzanne Renfrow served as a guidance counselor and often worked with students who were struggling and needed extra help to succeed. All of the Renfrow children attended Socastee High and were involved in the sports program by playing on various teams as well as being involved in activities to raise money to support the program. Each of them were were dedicated to doing their best and were examples of sportsmanship, teamwork, and service others.
Part of the dedication process involves purchasing permanent signage to be placed on the facilities. This purchase is the responsibility of the community. The total cost of the signage and installation is approximately $20,000, which includes installation. The goal is to have the signage paid for and installed so that the families can be recognized at a dedication ceremony on October 6, 2023.
The families will receive an album with pictures of the ceremony, the signage, and a listing of all who contribute. Let's all work together to show these families how much they are loved by those who lives they have touched.
