Soul & Soil Projects Food Sovereignty & Art Site
Soul & Soil Project’s Village Lab Collab with NAWAYA
Greetings!
We are a cooperatively-stewarded nonprofit organization based in Western North Carolina promoting regenerative lifestyles through food sovereignty and creativity. We collaborate and partner with other groups to foster the arts, wellness, economic empowerment, and land stewardship for the greater WNC region.
Soul & Soil Project comes from humble beginnings, founded by two women passionate about creating positive, community-driven change while healing the land. We call ourselves a project for a reason; adapting our programs and initiatives to meet the goals and inspirations of a variety of community groups and spaces. Throughout our journey we have been growing organic and sustainable food wherever we can, incubating and facilitating community experiences and educational events, and exploring the symbiotic relationships between art, culture, food, land, heart, and Soul.
New Beginnings!
After all of our hard, nomadic work in service to people and planet for the past seven years, we are THRILLED to find a permanent home for our intersectional organization! Located near Cherokee, NC, we are teaming up with Nawaya (a BIPOC-led, village-making company) on their newly acquired land. This will be the new headquarters site for Soul & Soil Project as we break ground in this exciting new chapter, with plans to create five income earning positions, and several projects to help build, grow, and maintain said positions and our nonprofit as a whole.
Nawaya is an ideal partner, as they are committed to the empowerment, healing, and legacy of people of culture and the next generations. Here, together, we are growing a brighter future!
Help us fundraise for our grassroots nonprofit’s current goals at our new site:
- garden fence / to keep the elk friends out of our Zone 1 $3,000
(Materials and labor)
- food sovereignty garden, forest garden habitat / native flora, fruit and nut trees $10,000
(Plants and labor: trail making, tree felling and garden/land stewardship))
- pallet-cob/multi-medium tool shed w/attached chicken coop & livestock shelter $3,500
- shipping container storage unit $2,500
- apothecary / hand cultivated medicinals and body products $10,000
(Supplies, herbs, medicine garden, compensations)
- mushroom lab $10,000 startup costs
Additionally, we are extremely grateful for a private sponsor who has pledged to match donations up to $20,000!
These projects co-exist interdependently to foster a food sovereignty living design for a multi family artist compound and incubation center for Nawaya Village.
