Indie Media Arts South (IMAS) is a regional collective of arts organizations, film festivals, and media makers working to strengthen the independent arts sector across the greater South, with a focus on equity and sustainability. IMAS is a regional subgroup of the Independent Film & Media Arts Initiative created by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Sundance Institute. The field group is open to all and seeks a diverse regional membership invested in building community-driven systems of support for independent media makers. Our fundraising campaign will serve our mission of uplifting independent filmmakers and artists, helping them to tell their stories and reach audiences across the South and beyond.
Why should you support IMAS? To be an independent voice can be daunting and often demands a tremendous amount of work. These voices are essential to our cultural fabric, provoking thought, discussion, awarenes, and action around important stories and topics. Indie Media Ars serves several imperative functions supporting the South's growing infrastructure and community around independent filmmaking. As IMAS grows while remaining free and open to the public, we rely on financial support from funders, organizations, and individuals.
We support independent makers by:
- Hosting regular field-building meetings that serve as a peer networking forum for continuous knowledge exchange regarding filmmaker-friendly policies, best practices, and strategies supporting independent artists and filmmakers
- Distributing a monthly newsletter highlighting Southern artists and providing the latest information regarding opportunities and resources
- Presenting a film screening series spotlighting Southern projects
- Facilitating in-person events and convenings with partner organizations to foster networking, knowledge sharing, and collaboration
