DARK. LOUD. SCARY. That’s what I thought of the animal shelter when my family recently dumped me there. The people that I trusted and loved took me for a car ride just to drop me in a noisy place they call shelter and walked away. Because they didn’t want me anymore. Heartbreaking!

Hi, I’m Shotgun, a 5-year-old black labby boy who is completely BLIND. Luckily a kind volunteer found me crouching in a corner, deeply confused and knew that a blind dog had little to no chance of being adopted at a shelter. So, she scooped me up and brought me into the Southern California Labrador Retriever Rescue family. Now, I have a loving foster home, but need your help to find my FOREVER family.

How can you do that? By helping me get some of my eye sight back. Yes! There is a chance I could see again out of one eye! Read on for the rest of my story.

Okay, where was I? Oh yes, the volunteer picked me up from that that loud, scary shelter. I knew she was nice right away. She spoke to me kindly and gave me lots of treats. Then she took to me to the vet, who referred us to an ophthalmologist.

Now that doctor is my HERO. He gave us both REALLY GREAT NEWS… THEY CAN SAVE ONE OF MY EYES! Well actually what he really said was one of my eyes is totally gone, but I’m an optimist so I focused on the positive. He said he can save the other eye! SAVE THE EYE! Can you believe it? He said the eye has good electrical impulses, the retina is attached and the cataract can be removed. He said he could put in a new lens and I’ll be able to see again. Did you hear that? YIPPEEE!

So here is where you come in. Can you donate a little bit to SCLRR to help offset my vet bills? SCLRR is filled with such good, kind, and loving people… but they have to raise money to help dogs like me.

My foster mom says I’m a good boy and being blind doesn’t slow me down much… okay I might bump into a tree or fence occasionally on my walks, but I just keeping on going. Cause life is too short to not enjoy a good walk. But can you imagine how much more I’d love my walks if I could be free to see?

So, are you ready to join my team? Team Shotgun? The vet has given SCLRR a good rescue discount, but they still need to raise $3,500 for my surgery and care. So, please help if you can.

Hello! We are Southern California Labrador Retriever Rescue (SCLRR) and we desperately need your help! We need to raise $6,000 for Pepper Mint’s URGENT surgery. We have until October 24th to raise the funds.

Let me tell you a little bit about her. Pepper Mint came to us about a month ago from a high kill shelter in Los Angeles. She was dumped by her former family for some unknown reason. We could tell immediately that she needed our help. We noticed that she had blood coming out of her left nostril along with a green discharge. When she sneezes, it splatters everywhere. It looks really painful.

One of our regular vets performed head X-rays and a biopsy of the tissue inside her nostril and performed a fungal test. She is currently on two very strong antibiotics and unfortunately its not helping. We have spent over $1,000 in diagnostics so far. We decided to take her to a specialist, Dr. Rossi at Southern California Veterinary Specialty Hospital in Irvine. While it is not entirely good news, there is a cure. She was diagnosed with Aspergillosis. Dr. Rossi said it is treatable, but it requires an aggressive and invasive treatment. It is also costly!

What is Aspergillosis? It’s a fungal infection caused by Aspergillus, a species of common mold found throughout the environment, including dust, straw, grass clippings, and hay.

Step 1 - Perform blood work and chest X-rays.

Step 2 - A CT scan and a rhinoscopy under general anesthesia. This is so they can figure it out the extent of the fungal infection. Dr. Rossi said that sometimes the fungal infections is only in the nasal cavity, but many times it is also located within the blank space in her cranium, above her eyes.

Step 3 - If the infection is found in her blank space a surgeon will drill a hole thru her scalp, on her forehead and aspirate as much of the infection as possible.

Step 4 - They will push inside the sinuses/ empty space a 1% solution of clotrimazole, a topical antifungal lotion. This is infused into the nose and frontal sinuses and the nostrils are sealed. The solution incubates for an hour, during which time the patient is periodically turned to ensure the solution contacts all of the surfaces of the sinuses. At the end of the incubation period, the clotrimazole is suctioned or drained out through the nostrils.

Step 5 - She will be hospitalized for an extra day for observation.

She’s scheduled for surgery  Today! The total cost of the procedure after our 25% discount for being a registered 501c3 organization is $6,000. We are asking for your kind help in reaching our goal.
We have asked what would happen if we did nothing and Dr. Rossi advised that the infection will eventually spread to her brain and she will most likely start having seizures and affect her mobility. Worst case scenario, she can die. We cannot allow that to happen! She is only 9 years YOUNG and she’s so sweet. She is full of life, she’s a fighter and we want to fight for her. Will you please help us?

We are Southern California Labrador Retriever Rescue and we need your help, again! We need to raise $1,500 for Layla. We have until February 11th to raise the funds.  

A good samaritan brought Layla to a local shelter. They tried reaching her owners, but no one called back to claim her so the shelter called us immediately.

Layla is a sweet and loving 10 year old yellow lab. She is missing 40% of her fur due to severe allergies.  She is very itchy and has bald, infected and raw spots on several parts of her body. She has been diagnosed with bacterial and yeast infections as a result of neglect, untreated allergies, and poor nutrition. We cannot imagine how incredibly painful and uncomfortable this is for her.

Thankfully, we were able to rescue this sweet dog. She is now in a warm and loving foster home where she receives all the love and attention the she deserves. She seems to be a very happy girl despite the neglect that she has received. Her happy disposition is contagious. She loves to give kisses and is such a wiggly kind of dog.  

The money we raise will go towards paying her numerous medications, doctor visits, high-quality/grain-free dog food and regular medicated baths to treat her condition.

We could not turn our backs on Layla. She deserves a happy, healthy and pain-free life and we intend on giving her that.
