Support Our Mission to Refurbish St Dominic Chapel
The biggest problem in our world today is not drugs, or poverty or even global warming. It is man’s inability to KNOW that GOD IS ALIVE AND ACTING!!! Without this knowledge man turns to ways to escape his reality, all meaning is drained from our lives, our sense of self is damaged and we find ourselves simply existing, just getting through the day. But GOD IS INDEED ALIVE and He wants everyone to enter into this reality, which brings clarity to everything else. The world needs a word of hope and love. This call to announce the Good News of the love of God is as urgent now as it was 2000 years ago.
Why is this something important for us right now? Well, we find ourselves, thanks be to God, in possession of a former elementary school, built in 1946. Its location is directly central to an underserved and economically depressed area within our Parish. This formerly vandalized building is helping to bring hope to those who live around it, as mass, confession, and school of religion are now offered. We want to continue this work. We need to create a safe space for the youth in the area, no matter their religion. We need to continue to offer tutoring and ESL classes and offer other services as the needs arise. We need to complete the renovation to the gymnasium into a Worship Space. Basically, we need to create a place where everyone feels the love and hope that only comes from a dignified and beautiful place that glorifies God. But, as you can imagine, although the structural integrity of the building is good, there are so many things that need to be done. Due to the age of the building and the changes in building codes, we need to basically gut the building and redo the interior.
We are seeking donations to help us with this mission. Please consider what you can do to help us renovate the chapel. The work and materials are being donated, but we still need so much more. This undertaking invites us and enables us to include many from the surrounding neighborhood, many of whom are youth, to build a sense of community and communion as we all step outside of ourselves for a common cause. We thank you for your time and consideration. It is up to man to do the possible and up to God to do the impossible!
