St. Mary's McGowan Restoration Project
My Dear Friends of St. Mary's McGowan,
I have been with you for many years and I am getting up in age. Although some of us age with grace, we cannot escape age altogether. As we get older, our timber weathers, our paint wrinkles in the cold north wind and we lose a few shingles here and there. The day has come where my body can not stand up against the forces of nature anymore. In times of need, we turn to our community, because we sometimes need the support of our family and friends to keep things running. So I look to you, my dear Friends, to help fix me in my time of need. Over the years we have shared many memories. I have shared in your bliss, your love, and your sorrow. I was built to be as I am, the visible sign of the constant and pervading part of our culture. For you have made me more than just a building, you have provided me with a soul that makes me a home. We have strong roots, to the land, to the sea, to our people and our community. Even though many of you have wondered from home, you always know you have a place by my side, a welcoming sight as we return to the peninsula. It is a tradition for us to share what we have and I have faith that will continue. I hope you oblige a plea from an old tired building in need, so we may all look with hope for our future.
I would like to thank Jeanene Williams and her committee for all of the hard work they have done to support and follow through to keep this project going. A special "thank you" to Glenn Trusty of Dr. Roof and the Oman family of Oman and Son's!
As you might know, reconstruction is scheduled to start June 1, 2020. Although a BIG portion of the project is funded, we are just a little short of fully funding phase 3 . This includes the North and East walls. We are so close. With your help we will be able to complete the exterior of this project. We look forward to hearing from you.
