The St. Vrain Historical Society is fundraising
Preservation of “Old” St. Stephen’s Church
On August 11 and 24th, Old St. Stephen’s Church (located at 470 Main Street in Longmont, CO) was the victim of vandalism. A total of 12 stained glass windows were destroyed. These windows were reproductions (created in the 1980s) from the original windows. The original windows were taken by St. Stephen's Episcopal congregation when they moved from "Old" St. Stephen's to their new church in the 1970s.
“Old” St. Stephen’s is now owned and managed by The St. Vrain Historical Society, a local Longmont nonprofit organization dedicated to historic preservation and education in the community. This church (built in 1881) is the oldest standing Church in Longmont and is a designated local and national historic landmark.
The St. Vrain Historical Society is currently working with the authorities and all available resources to understand better the situation, the next steps, and how much it will cost to replace and restore the damaged windows. This also includes a timeline for doing so.
Right now, donations of any size are very much appreciated to help The St. Vrain Historical Society with the continued care, preservation, maintenance, and operational support of “Old” St. Stephen’s Church. Donations will go toward the continued preservation and maintenance projects required to ensure that this 1881 church remains protected and secure for the community’s enjoyment and education.
