The Stop Croman Coalition is a grassroots organization, founded in 1999 and formalized in 2007. We are tenants living in 200+ buildings owned and operated by the notorious landlords Steve and Harriet Croman. We have all struggled against their systematic assaults on our basic rights as citizens and human beings to live safely and peacefully in our homes, free of harassment. We formed to protect our civil rights and expose the predatory actions of convicted felon Steve Croman.

As a result of our determined efforts to seek justice, we made history.
In 2017, Steve Croman became the first landlord ever sentenced to a year in Rikers Island, and an historic Consent Decree was reached by the New York State Attorney General which included an unprecedented restitution of $8 million dollars for Croman's injured tenants, and more than a hundred of his buildings were removed from his control.
The Coalition is committed to continue the fight. Our mission is to support, educate, organize and mobilize tenants to protect their legal rights, maintain a city-wide support system, network with elected officials and other tenant organizations, research information for regulatory agencies, direct and assist tenants in fighting back against landlord harassment, and negligence, secure repairs, prevent eviction, expose fraud, and raise awareness via website, internet and group meetings regarding the plight of tenants abused by landlords and to support them through collective action.

We're strong and we're dedicated, but we need funds to maintain and secure our website, stopcromancoalition.org, and to hire a web designer and graphic artist, researchers and assistants, and to purchase video equipment. These funds would also help us provide transportation for elderly and vulnerable tenants and organizational personnel to rallies and support events, to purchase banners and other materials for these events, to cover the cost of our post office box, bulk xeroxing and mailings, as well as printer ink, paper and other office supplies that are vital to our efforts.
