SCHOOL of the FUTURE SUNRAISER
The First Maker Fest on August 10th 2024 will celebrate the Brightmoor Makers and enliven and enhearten the Sunbridge Community Healing Park. Donations will make possible needed honorariums for artists and community creators to bring music, poetry, and deepening conversation to this embodiment of "the school of the future". Additionally the Maker Fest will include a makers market (featuring T-shirts, appliances, handmade furniture, signs and other crafts made by the Brightmoor Makers); food; an opportunity to learn about and step into Earthstream Tiny Houses; community conversation hosted by the Birwood House; therapeutic offerings by Steiner Health; tours of Detroit Community High School and a Heal Art park activation experience.
The Brightmoor Makers are a group of students and teachers joined in a hands-on educational program based out of Detroit Community High School and under the direction of Sunbridge International Collaborative, a 501c3 Non-Profit. Sunbridge is an experiential learning organization that allows children, young people and adults to discover their sense of mission and vision within the global community.

What is the school of the future? A question for each of us to ponder and ask each-other as we seek new and evolving educational forms to meet the needs of our times. Over more than a decade of work, signs, picnic benches and outdoor stages/classrooms created by the Brightmoor Makers can be seen throughout the Brightmoor community and beyond.

The Maker Fest will invite community into relationship, imagination and dialogue with the Brightmoor Makerspace and the Sunbridge Community Healing Park as a home for gathering, fun and the school of the future as it comes into being.

The momentum and collaborative constellations that have joined to create this first Makers Fest have emerged out of 3 years of Elderberries' How We Will summer gatherings in Detroit and the Youth Section lead music makers park project.

In a collaborative gesture of supporting the school of the future in all its forms, a small percentage of funds will be gifted to the Chrysalis school classroom building in Harlemville New York.
