Many students with low to mid-tier grade point averages and test scores excel in extracurricular, community and personal areas of their lives indicating they have the discipline to succeed in college, if provided with a network of support and the necessary financial resources.
Support Options 4 College (SO4C), a 501(c)3 community-based nonprofit organization serves high school seniors by helping them transition from high school to college. SO4C provides the support and financial resources students need to succeed in college.
SO4C's support helps break the cycle of poverty for many families by allowing students, often the first in their family, to attend college.
For over 35 years, Kenneth Johnson, Founder and Executive Director of Support Options 4 College (SO4C), has been voluntarily providing guidance and financial assistance to young people in their pursuit of higher education. Ken has helped thousands of young people go to colleges throughout the U.S. and abroad. Assisting young people in realizing their educational goals is a major part of Ken's life work.

STUDENT SUCCESS and DEMONSTRATION of the WORK:
Ken had a student who graduated high school with a 0.9 grade point average, but had overcome an environment infested with gangs, drugs and other ills. The student worked a job and provided for his basic needs. Because of the student's belief that he could succeed in college, Ken met with his father to enlist his support.
Ken, then began calling schools he had previous relations, sharing this student’s story. The student had not taken the college entrance exams (ACT/SAT) nor had his parent completed the free application for federal student aid (FAFSA). A college allowed the student to take the ACT in the spot, apply for financial aid and be admitted with conditions.
Ken paid installments on the student's balance and mentored him while searching for other monies. He completed the fall semester with a 2.9 grade point average. The school credited a Michael Jackson United Negro College Fund Scholarship to help pay for the fall and the student also earned other financial aid for the spring.
In his sophomore year, he became an exchange student to London. After college graduation, the student returned to London for work and school, obtaining his MBA. This former recipient now works for a Fortune 500 Company. He also serves as a part-time adjunct professor at his alma mater and has a family of his own.
