Want to help mothers and their unborn live beyond pregnancy? We have a real solution and I'm raising money to benefit that solution, Synergy Saturday, Inc. Any donation will help directly impact the lives of pregnant women and their unborn babies in our communities, right now. Thanks in advance for your contribution. It means so much to me, especially since the recent passing of my own mother and family matriarch.
Problem:
Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP) remain one of the major causes of pregnancy-related maternal and fetal morbidity (having the diseases) and mortality (death from the diseases) worldwide. These hypertensive disorders are on the rise in the United States. Unfortunately, these disorders get diagnosed late at delivery or remain undiagnosed altogether. If the diseases are undiagnosed, then they're untreated. Gestational hypertension, preeclampsia, and eclampsia can often be prevented and best controlled by physicians, especially if caught early through the simple monitoring of blood pressure measurements at every prenatal visit.
Pregnancy-related deaths disproportionately affect women on Medicaid compared to pregnancy-associated but not related deaths. 67% of women who died from pregnancy-related deaths and 44% who died from pregnancy-associated but not related deaths had Medicaid insurance, which only covers nine months for pregnancy. 92% of pregnancy-related deaths were considered potentially preventable.
"The prevalence of hypertensive disorders in pregnancy was 20.9% among Black women, 16.4% among American Indian and Alaska Native women, 14.7% among White women, 12.5% among Hispanic women, and 9.3% among Asian or Pacific Islander women."1
"In this day and age, we like to think racial disparities are a thing of the past, but unfortunately, that is far from the case concerning healthcare for expectant moms.
Arkansas not only has the third highest maternal death rate in the nation, 71 percent of those moms are black women. These are women who will die before the car ride home from the hospital. These are moms whose health complications will jeopardize themselves and their babies."4
Solution:
Synergy Saturday's program, Help Mothers and Their Unborn Live Beyond Pregnancy, is an innovative initiative that aims to directly save the lives of pregnant women and their unborn babies from Hypertensive Disorders of Pregnancy. HDP remains one of the major causes of pregnancy-related fetal and maternal morbidity and mortality worldwide. What sets Synergy Saturday's solution apart is its unique approach to improving, expanding access to, and coordinating perinatal healthcare services.
Our program will screen mothers for high blood pressure and other chronic disorders weekly, catch onsets or symptoms in the earliest stages, and refer adverse cases to their Primary Care Physician, OBGYN, clinic, or hospital for immediate and appropriate treatment. We will also pair pregnant women with Doulas for all maternity appointments and track them throughout their respective birthing timelines from conception up to a year after their healthy delivery via our proprietary Storks™ app.
