Hurricane Irma - Catty Shack
All of our animals are safe and sound. We endured some damage to the grounds, but fortunately, nothing we couldn't fix! Our small animals were taken indoors and our big cats rode out the storm safely in their enclosures, just as they did during Hurricane Matthew. We are again fortunate that all of our enclosures held up and sustained no major damage.
Fortunately, we took what we learned from Hurricane Matthew and prepped the sanctuary the week leading up to the storm. We were ahead of the game and it was a great feeling! After Matthew destroyed our welcome tent, we replaced it with 6 adjoining metal carports which will provide temporary shelter until we begin construction on our new welcome center building in 2018. And because we stored all of our merchandise indoors, we did not lose any retail items this year!
We are finalizing our master plan with our civil engineer, Rafael Morla of MAR Engineering Group, for our expansion of the sanctuary, beginning with the new Welcome Center. We are continuing to raise funding to assist with the cost of this new building along with the news habitats in the plan. Included in the master plan are 8 new big cat habitats each measuring 7,000 square feet, 12 new leopard/puma habitats and 4 new small animal habitats. We are very excited for this new chapter at Catty Shack but we need your help to make it possible!
Be sure to stay connected on Facebook, Instagram, and our e-newsletter! We look forward to sharing our new plans with you!
The Catty Shack is dedicated to the rescue and care of these endangered big cats that have been confiscated by the state for illegal ownership, improper enclosures or maltreatment or have been surrendered by private owners who could no longer take care of them. These animals might otherwise be euthenized, but we need your help!
This campaign has been made by Jordan Joseph, Volunteer Coordinator and staff member of Catty Shack Ranch Wildlife Sanctuary. All funds raised will be used for property repairs and the new Welcome Center. All donations are tax-deductible.
