As many of you know, we lost our amazing friend and classmate Lynsey Propeck Eno (Sacred Heart Class of '93) in August 2023 after her 8+ year battle against breast cancer. Perhaps your memory of her was of that spunky 14 year old who loved to customize her Converse, listen to Nirvana, play Led Zeppelin classics on the guitar, rollerblade down the terrifyingly steep Comer Dr., or cruise for public school boys at Olympic Pizza.
You may not have known that following her Saratoga shenanigans, Lynsey moved to Boston for college - fulfilling her dream of getting as far away from California as possible. She even became a Red Sox fan .. what?! She created a fulfilling and enriching life out there and never looked back. She continued her love of surfing - first sparked by her adventures with her dad at the beaches of Santa Cruz. A lifelong athlete, she competed in several marathons including Hartford and Chicago. She and her Dad even ran the NYC Marathon during a rare and fleeting break in cancer treatment.
She was definitely a force and had an inspiring gift for making meaningful connections wherever she was. Realizing this passion, she went on to complete her second Masters in School Counseling during her cancer journey. She had such a commitment to the students she served. A further reflection of her propensity to form relationships with countless members of her community and friends, she was lovingly referred to as “The Mayor of Westbrook”. People gravitated to her selflessness and compassion. She and her husband, Jay, created a beautiful homestead as a backdrop to raising their two young boys ... who she lovingly referred to as "the Wolves".
She was also committed to supporting the breast cancer community and participated in numerous “Closer to Free” rides and the annual “After the Storm Art Bra” show to raise awareness and help fund breast cancer research. As a way to honor our friend's legacy on her birthday (May 1), we'll be participating in a fun run with a cause. The 11th Annual Lam Research Heart & Soles Run on Santa Clara University campus on Saturday, April 27th, 2024. The focus of the Heart & Soles Run is to support children's health and wellness, an ideal complement to the GoFundMe for The Cove Center for Grieving Children that we have created in honor of Lynsey.
The Cove Center for Grieving Children is a non-profit, volunteer-driven organization that aims to provide hope and healing to grieving children, teens, and their families. Developed by the New England Center for Loss and Transition and founded in 1995 in Guilford, Connecticut, The Cove now supports hundreds of families across the state through family group programs, virtual sessions for teens and young adults, a male caregiver group, and its annual bereavement camp. All of this programming is offered to families at no cost. If you are able, we hope you will join us in making a donation to help The Cove reach more children and families. Your support will go directly towards programs and initiatives like Camp Compassion and family support programs.
How can you support?
1. Join us on April 27th at the 11th Annual Lam Research Heart & Soles Run ("For the Wolves" Team) - all are welcome!
2. Consider making a contribution to the Go Fund Me for The Cove Center for Grieving Children
3. Donate directly to The Cove Center for Grieving Children
4. Send warm wishes in the form of remembering the lyrics to the Sacred Heart Fight Song (Blake and James would be indebted) and singing it loud!
We know our friend would get such a kick out of this if it led to some of us reconnecting - we can hear her laughing already.
