The Daily Californian needs your help!

The Daily Cal provides students with hands-on training and serves as a cutting-edge news outlet. We’ve done that for the last 147 years, and we aren't stopping anytime soon. We need resources to continue to support and train our record number of staff members at the Daily Cal. We are counting on generous supporters like you.

Your contribution will allow us to address immediate operational needs, provide scholarships and acquire much-needed equipment and software for our multimedia and design teams. As an independent, student-run newspaper, we are counting on your support to sustain our voice and our goals in a time when the traditional definition of news is in danger. 

Funding for the paper is threefold, coming from advertising revenue, a yearly student fee and from donations. The operational budget of the paper is about $650,000, allowing for publication four days per week during the academic year and once per week during the summer. The Daily Californian Education Foundation, the fundraising arm of the Daily Cal, is a nonprofit organization that seeks donations from alumni, grants and corporate sponsorships in order to support students and allow for the newspaper to continue operating.

This semester, we've been thrown into exceptionally contentious situations, and have responded with solid, detailed work. 


Once again, we found ourselves central to a debate about Free Speech on campuses, and have covered violent protests almost regularly since the November election. 
In March, we uncovered 124 cases of faculty and staff sexual misconduct throughout the UC system, and created an interactive database to track them. Since then, we've added seven more cases to the database, and we'll keep adding to it for as long as we have to.
