The Delta Humane Society of Louisiana

The Delta Humane Society of Louisiana operates in a rural area where there are no resources for animals. Think about it...... there is no shelter or animal control or even a boarding kennel and only one veterinarian. DHS is the only rescue that helps animals in the multiple parishes without animal control..... an area of over 7,000 square miles! We are overwhelmed with the animals in need here. DHS doesn't have a facility or a staff but our small group of volunteers does wonders.

Last night we were told about a large dog who had been lying by the road for 2 days in the rain and cold after having been hit by a car. His owner knew about him but didn't care. Volunteers rescued him by flashlight. We knew he was badly injured and our vet confirmed our worst suspicions this morning. Davis, as we've named him, needs surgery at a cost of almost $8,000 to be happy and healthy at last. The prognosis for the surgery is very very good and he is a young boy and will have many long years if we can raise the funds for this. We are asking for your help to fund the surgery for "Davis." He is a purebred German Shepherd and gorgeous despite never having any care or attention. Last night, as strangers moved him in the rain and the dark, we know he was scared and in agony but he was docile and forgiving although he whimpered in pain. Not many dogs are that gentle and loving. He deserves to have a better life than he has known and this surgery can give it to him. Any small donation will really help and they are fully tax deductible. This is an urgent request as surgery needs to be scheduled as soon as possible.
