WE NEED YOUR HELP...
In the Griffin Heights neighborhood, there are approximately 500 homes surrounded by three large subsidized housing projects with 1,500 residents and several abandoned homes used as havens for drug dealers, addicts and the homeless. The area has two secondary schools, two sports recreational center and pool, but is underserved because of the limited educational and mentoring accessibilities in the community. According to the Neighborhood Scout's research, our neighborhood has an income lower than 95.2% of U.S. neighborhoods. 44.8% of the Griffin Heights neighborhood children are living below the federal poverty line, which is higher than 87.0% of U.S. neighborhoods. The Tallahassee Police Department’s Uniform Crime Report has classified Griffin Heights as the worst neighborhood to live and raise a family as it pertains to gun violence fused by growing gang activity.
WHAT WE DO...
Our programs are in direct response to the growing number of young people that are either falling through the cracks in school or are already entangled with the juvenile court system. The goal of the programs is to identify youths who are likely to have a turbulent transition to adulthood and offer a positive support system to avoid the pitfalls that can derail their lives. The focus is slightly different at each level but the goal remains the same; empower the young person to make positive changes in his/her life.
WHO ARE WE...
The Frontline Project is a 501c3 nonprofit community action agency providing mentoring programs for middle and high school youth in the Greater Frenchtown community of Tallahassee, Florida. The agency will form partnerships with local school districts and the juvenile court system. The goal of the Frontline Project is to foster a commitment to young people that will promote pro-social friendships, strong interpersonal skills, and reassert a sense of hope in the future. Only through personal relationships can a sense of individual responsibility be reestablished that will give youth the commitment to follow through on path to adulthood with a sense of pride and accomplishment.
