Want to join me in making a difference? I'm raising money to benefit Ndakinna Education Center, and any donation will help make an impact.
First and foremost, we hope that everyone is doing well during the difficult times we face today during the Covid-19 pandemic. This virus has truly changed the face of civilization as we know in such a short amount of time. Our hearts go out to those who have been affected - either through the illness, a family member, or through the loss of work that has accompanied the stay at home measures that are in place to lower the severity of this infectious disease, and allow our healthcare system to cope with the numerous new cases that are unfolding each day.
Ndakinna is an affiliate of the Greenfield Literary Review Center, a 501(c)3 non-profit, and the majority of our year long budget comes from the programming that we offer. We are happy to announce that our administration staff remains paid through the closure thanks to funding from the PPP SBA loan.
During the pandemic, Ndakinna Education Center is continuing our educational mission through webinars, live streams, and social media posts. If you haven’t already,
follow us on facebook for the latest skills and programs that we can offer. Sundays for example, usually have a zoom based class on the Abenaki Language that Jesse Bruchac offers. We have received approximately $1250 in donations through these online classes. We would like to thank these donors for the help during these difficult times.
On our physical programming however, we are sad to announce that due to the ban on public gatherings that is ongoing, all of our spring programs and field trips were effectively cancelled. We all look forward to working with our community again in the near future, continuing to passing along the age old traditions, skills, and stories that we hold so dear to our hearts.
Ndakinna has seen a reduction in excess of $15,000 so far in our yearly budget from programs held on the premises. These funds are used to pay utilities, staff, help maintain the center, and hire outside instructors to come and share their knowledge with our community. A breakdown of what we have lost in funding and/or general costs for the center are as follows:
**Ongoing repair and utilities: $1500 - front wall repair, $1500, water pump and well repair, $3,000 in utilities
**Employee, staffing, and special instructors that have lost income: $3,000 employee pay for spring camp, $1500 special programming instructor fees.
**Additional Center Funding Lost: $4,000 in Abenaki Language Programming (used towards utilities and to help further the spread of the language), $2,000 College Alternative Break Programming, $3500 in School Field Trips
Ndakinna plans to use the $15,000 funds raised in multiple ways. First, funds will be used to pay for utilities, repairs, and maintenance at the facility. Next, additional funds will be used to pay our 1099 employees, staff, and special instructors the funds that they lost when our programs were cancelled. Lastly, any additional funds raised outside of these costs will be used as Artist Relief for the local Northeastern Native American Community.
