Hello Community,
Nathan and his daughter are looking for your support in securing the goals of Native Youth Alliance!
Nathan, alongside his late wife Shoshana, created NYA in 1990 with the goal of providing spiritual guidance to Indigenous youth. Over the years this has manifested in many ways, from providing counseling to the incarcerated, traveling to conferences and other advocacy events, to hosting prayer walks and providing a comfortable place to rest for those in need. His home has become a sacred ceremony site for sweat lodges, which he builds himself to practice spiritual healing, especially for others. A longtime goal of Nathan's has also been to develop a sort of way station, a safe space for local Indigenous people and those passing through. Whether it be for a brief place to rest during travels, or for women and families looking for a safe place to stay fleeing domestic violence, they would like to develop this home to better meet these needs.
Unfortunately, Nathan and his daughter were recently informed that they must purchase the home they’ve resided in for 7 years or move. And to that we say: in order to help sustain NYA, let’s purchase this home! He and his daughter have already put so much work into it; it has been a place where plenty of healing and good work has been accomplished. Plus the area feels secure, with kind neighbors and a community that can be relied on. Nathan and his daughter have poured care into the community and the community has reciprocated that care.
By investing in their permanent home base, you are also directly investing in NYA’s capacity, empowering their ability to continue and expand their work tremendously. They will be able to depend on this home as an organizational space to host local educational workshops and other meetings. It would also provide a lot of stability so that traveling to events and front line actions out of state would be more feasible.
Thank you again for helping us take up this challenge. We will provide updates as this project moves along! For more information and other updates check out the NYA Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/NativeYouthAlliance/
