Rare Cancer Research Foundation

Hi! My name is Harper Weekly, and I'm running the Newport Marathon on April 19th to raise funds for the Rare Cancer Research Foundation. This cause is really important to me because my dad had a rare type of brain cancer when I was younger that this organization can help find a cure to. Running a marathon has been a goal of mine for a long time, and I'm so happy to finally have the opportunity to do it for such a great cause!

The Rare Cancer Research Foundation is dedicated to advancing research and developing treatments for rare cancers that often receive less attention and funding. They work to support innovative research projects, provide resources for patients and families, and collaborate with scientists and medical professionals to find new and effective treatments. On March 23, 2024, we lost one of our best. Gale K. Johnson lost her battle with cancer that day. She kept her head held high even when doctors told her there was no chance of recovery. She did trial after trial for three years, two of which, while she was taking care of her husband Gary, who was very ill.

Through the first two years, she went to Sloan Kettering. They recommended trial after trial as if they were just throwing things against the wall in hopes that one would stick.

My name is Ryan Johnson, and Gale was my mother. On October 3rd, I will be doing a 24-hour pull-up challenge to raise awareness and money for rare cancer research. I am doing the challenge in honor of my mother. My hope is to get close to the world record of 9,000. I will try to live stream every hour to show my progress.
