As our Silver Spring Cares community knows, Fall and Winter mean it's time for our Casseroles for a Cause drive.
Shepherd's Table has been one of our partner organizations for these drives since the very beginning, and this fall was going to be no different...
Only it is! The freezer Shepherd's Table uses to store these incredible meals has broken, and our friends need a new place to store everything we whip up for them.
Won't you help? $6,000 allows Shepherd's Table to replace the lost freezer so that they can continue to serve meals to clients and families facing food and housing insecurity.
($500 helps to cover the credit card and service fees for online crowdfunding.)
A note from Christina Moore, our partner, friend, and Director of Special Programs at Shepherd's Table:
The freezer is such a great need, as it has been the storage for all our casseroles for years! As our programs have grown, and we are serving more and more meal guests all the time, our freezer space is becoming scarce. It has recently become harder to source some of the items we use regularly, so we try to keep our large freezer well-stocked for a few weeks out in case of shortages. This leaves very little space to store the casseroles at the rate we usually receive them. We have always had a stand-alone freezer to house all the casseroles, but it recently died, and we are unable to replace it until at least 2022, as it is not in our current budget.
We acknowledge how important it is to continue the Casserole program to our longtime supporters, and to our chefs and clients as well. This program not only saves us money (up to $1000 for each meal served!) but also saves time and stress of preparation so our chefs can focus their time on other important tasks, or even just get a break on a difficult day. In addition, our clients have really come to love the dishes we receive through this program! The zippy beef and broccoli chicken are especially popular!
We appreciate anything our neighbors can do to help us replace this valuable piece of equipment so that we can efficiently keep up with all the amazing donations you all so graciously bring to us! Below is a link to the exact freezer needed. As always, we SO appreciate all the ways in which you all are so good to us!
