Zoe & Lawrence's Vietnam Humanitarian Trip 7/24/19
Last year, my daughter Zoe (then 10 years old) and I embarked on a humanitarian mission trip to Vietnam with doctors, nurses and students with a goal to give to and help the forgotten and less fortunate people of Vietnam. Turns out, it was us that were given the most. Their appreciation and gratitude was so immense, we knew we needed to do more. This year, we will be returning to Vietnam. Click HERE to view a 7 minute video on our 2018 trip.
We are seeking donations to return and give the gift of sight, touch, health and presence. The cost of each event ranges between $1000 to $4680. Of course, if you are already extended or this does not fit within your giving policy, we understand. All donations are tax deductible. Donations of any amount would be greatly appreciated!
Whether you want to give the gift of sight, water, touch, healing or presence, below are the opportunities for giving:
· $4680 - Eye Surgeries for the Blind, the gift of sight. Your donation will cover the cost of an surgery for up to 120 patients that includes transportation and food for the day. With some traveling as long as 6 hours, this is truly a remarkable gift that impacts so many. Below is picture of Zoe with the patients post-op.
· $4130 - Zoe’s Well & Trip, the gift of water. In the Highlands of Vietnam, the people drink from streams that are used for bathing and human waste. Through your donation, Zoe’s well will be built and will provide drinking water for over 300 people. Earlier this year, UC Irvine completed a similar project with www.tongueout.com. · $1000 – Leprosy Center, giving the gift of touch. An hour outside of Saigon is a compound for those with Leprosy (Hanson’s disease). Although 100% curable now, because of where they were born and live, they did not get the cure until later in life. My daughter Zoe and I met a women who was dropped off in 1979, never to be seen by her family again due to the stigma of the disease. Many have no business smiling yet they are so happy when you are willing to hug and touch them, toothless smiles are everywhere. Your donation will cover the cost of the transportation and the roughly $5 we give to each person. Below is a picture of Zoe and I last year at the center.
· $1000 – Pop Up Medical Clinic, the gift of healing. Many in Vietnam do not have access to healthcare even for the most basic of health risks. Our medical team of doctors and nurses set up a clinic, treat and medicate the needy in suburban and rural areas in Vietnam. Your gift will help to cover the costs of travel, supplies and prescriptions. Below is picture of the team, including Dr. Trinh, arriving to set up one of the clinics
· $1000 – Orphanages, the gift of presence. We travel to many orphanages to sit down and play with the children that have been forgotten and left at temples due to the loss of their parents or deformities from the impact of Agent Orange. Your donation will help cover the costs of travel and toys for the children.
