Saving Toni's Ponies Rescue
Toni’s Ponies is a place where horses come first. Toni herself has been a horse owner and, more importantly, a horse lover her entire life. She has rented property in Kingston for the last 17 years building paddocks, feeding areas, temporary and permanent shelters, and established Toni’s Ponies as a 501c nonprofit rescue for these beautiful creatures. The horses that come to Toni’s Ponies look very different when they eventually find their forever homes. Some come from feedlots or are abandoned by their owners. Some have been untouchable and near starving with ribs showing. They’ve been covered in cuts and sores and on the edge of death. For some, Toni’s has become their forever home, a sanctuary, if you will, where they live out the rest of their days pain-free, being loved on, and taken care of even for those whose “forever” was only a few short weeks. For others, this is a way stop, where they’re brought back to a place they can be touched again, led, and eventually ridden.
This takes a lot of patient work, compassion, and dedication. It takes a village and many hands. Toni’s Ponies is so blessed by their village! While the rescue’s focus is the horses, mules, minis and donkeys, there is another aspect that is incredibly special. Toni’s Ponies has become a place of community. It gives young and old alike the opportunity to interact with, learn about caring for and supporting these magnificent creatures. Horses are special animals. Often they look for just the right person to bond with, which is part of the magic that happens at Toni’s ponies. Some of the horses that stay serve as ambassadors to the many volunteers that come to the farm.
Today, Toni’s Ponies needs your help. Over the course of the last 17 years Toni has seen over 42 horses come through the farm gates. Toni and her volunteers and family have built places for them to eat, safely adjust to new spaces, and keep sheltered from the elements. They’ve spent countless hours on feeding, desensitizing, and loving on their charges. They’ve done all this on rented property. In the last week of February the owners of the property have had to make the decision that they need to sell. They have given Toni a 90 day notice to either move or buy. We are asking you today to partner with Toni’s Ponies and help them save the rescue so that they can continue to do the work they’ve been doing all along. We don’t have much time to raise funds and are desperate to save this rescue. In addition to not having to move their rescue this would allow them to build more permanent structures and expand the work that they do.
