School bus for newly arrived Ukrainian children
We all know how difficult school transportation is for our kids in Philly. Furthermore, any delays, cancellations, or changes in schedule can create problems for us at many levels; making it hard for us to adjust.
Now, imagine moving here from a war-torn country, while you have three children on your hands, into a world you have never experienced, with your husband staying behind to defend what's left of your home.
And while you are thinking that you have settled and caught a little break, a job, and the children admitted to school, you receive the news that they no longer attend because they lack transportation.
We've stepped in and found buses, routes, drivers, and funds for the first couple of weeks, but we are a nonprofit organization that has no ability to pull such large dollar amounts from our budget (which is already stretched thin), at least not without your help.
While we are working to organize fundraisers and other events to fund these kids' journey to the best future we possibly can, we need your help to get them there.
The number on the fundraiser reflects the amount of the full transportation cost between now and the end of the school year (40 weeks), the cost of each bus per day (regardless of amount of children) is $350.00 (both directions).
40 weeks x 5 days per week = 200 days200 days x $350 = $70,000.00
We understand that this number is quite high, but also we have welcomed children into our community and have given them the ability to ease the traumas of war, relocation, loss, and broken families by living through the art, education and the ability to become productive members of society rather than just another abandoned child.
We thank you in advance, and appreciate your help and generosity.
