Any donation of any amount will be truly appreciated. Any amount, really.
This treatment is for 8 cats total, 3 feral female cats, 1 male feral cat and 4 soon to be born kittens.
One of the female feral cats is pregnant with 4 kittens due within the next two weeks.
All donations will go directly to the care for these 4 cats and Cleo's 4 kittens, who are being helped by the Urban Cat League, an amazing, caring, smart and kind cat rescue organization in NYC.
During the pandemic, the feral cat population in NYC exploded to somewhere between half a million to a million feral cats.
"An unaltered female with a lifespan of 2-8 years can become pregnant as early as four to five months old and produce 2 to 3 litters each year during her life span. Without spay/neuter programs for feral cats each female can produce up to 200 kittens during her lifetime"
The info below I received from the Urban Cat League about expenses has been this:
The costs for surgical and medical treatments of
"three cats is $400.
Tank of gas $40
3 tolls to NYC and one to Long Island. $73
Food and bait for the week? ca: $20"
"Not sure what the regular vet for Cleo [the pregnant cat] will be tomorrow for a sonogram plus testing for FIV/FeLv, but by the time her kittens are neutered, vaccinated and ready for adoption it could easily be $2K, but all of that is speculation at this point; how many kittens, male/female, etc. "
Urban Cat League's, Mike Phillips, did an absolutely amazing job trapping the cats, transporting them, arranging for the vet appointments, feeding and caring for each cat lovingly, thoughtfully and expertly. He informed me by email of every meaningful detail, sent photographs and videos to keep me updated.
It turned out the Tom cat has feline AIDS, called FIV. Mike will try and get Tom and his baby daughter kitten, Didi, who get along lovingly, adopted together. The pregnant mom cat, Cleo needs to be tested for FIV, all her soon to be born kittens too need to be spayed/neutered, given all the shots and treatments.
Cleo's eldest daughter Fifi, a 6 month old kitten, will be returned to the alley, where I will do my best to take care of her, earn her trust and socialize her, if possible, over time. Cleo will be returned to the alley too, once she has nursed her kittens and they have been weaned. She will also need to be spayed, given shots.
"in addition to being Spayed or Neutered today,
the trio was also:Tested for Leukemia and AIDS
Vaccinated for Rabies and Distemper
Each got a microchip implanted so that we will be notified if they ever go missing or ever land at Animal Control.
Tom was treated for earmites (Didi and Fifi were ok)All three have been dewormed and
treated for Fleas, Ticks and the usual parasites.
They received the mandatory left ear-tip for feral cats. This prevents them from getting trapped and reoperated by a good samaritan not knowing that they are already TNR'd" [TNR = Trapped.Neutered.Returned]"
