VSC Endowment Campaign
Every day, 24/7, Victim Services Center is helping someone who is a victim of sexual assault, child abuse or other violent crime. Victims and their family members receive no cost crisis counseling, therapy, emotional support to help them heal and advocacy as their case goes through the criminal justice system.
Victim Services Center of Montgomery County, Inc. (VSC) is the sole not-for-profit comprehensive crime victims’ agency in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania that provides free and confidential 24-hour crisis intervention via two hotlines, individual and group counseling, advocacy, in-person accompaniment to hospitals for medical care as a result of rape, a child abuse treatment and family therapy program, accompaniment to police interviews and court hearings, risk reduction/safety education programs, professional training, community crisis response and civil legal representation for victims of sexual violence and stalking. VSC is here to help to the victim, their family and friends affected by the victimization of their loved one.
In fiscal year 2016-2017, VSC served 2,252 survivors of sexual assault, child abuse, sexual harassment and other violent crimes. The majority of survivors of sexual assault were women and girls. Education Specialists conducted 862 child abuse and anti-bullying prevention education programs in elementary schools, safety/risk reduction programs in colleges and universities, senior centers and training to professionals, including Mandated Reporting Training to professionals in contact with children.
Donations help VSC’s 24/7 services including the crisis hotline, which has been busy with an increase in calls from victims in the aftermath of the sexual harassment and sexual assault cases reported in the media and the "#MeToo" movement which has empowered survivors to speak out about their abuse. VSC is here to serve the survivors, many of whom are experiencing emotional distress as their own trauma of victimization is triggered by the reports and discussion.
