My name is Georgia Evans, from Loveland, CO and this project began in 2016 when I went on an African vacation photo safari. Our group planned to go to a Masai village. In researching these villages to see what they might need; I noticed that the village women were hauling water from nasty looking ponds. This water looked very unhealthy to me, so I decided to get them water filters to help. We put community size filter in their school and another in the village to give them disease-free drinking water.
Since then, I have returned 8 times to over 50 African villages to deliver WHO approved clean water filters that remove waterborne illnesses like cholera, dysentery, giardia, etc. This lifesaving project has become a public international non-profit called Village Care Project.
Village Care Project has also distributed THOUSANDS of mosquito bed nets that help prevent malaria in semi-nomadic villages in rural areas.
Malaria from mosquitoes is another considerable health problem for villagers. The mortality rate for children is 1 in 5. That is really scary!
In addition to water filters and mosquito nets we try to distribute:
• TARPS - heavy duty rain tarps for roofs of their mud thatch homes to keep them warm and dry during the rainy season.
• Solar LED Lanterns to give them the gift of light after the sun goes down. Helps children who are able to go to school to continue schoolwork after dark. Helps adults see during emergencies at night. Helps adults continue making crafts etc that they can sell to survive.
• We are hoping to add 200 washable, reusable "monthly hygiene kits" to our program to distribute to school age girls who commonly have to drop out of school once their monthly period starts due to lack of feminine hygiene supplies. Help them stay in school and get an education!
