Metro To Polis: 2 Gays, 2 Bikes, 2 Cities, 1 Cause
A simple idea: ride our bicycles from Washington, DC to Annapolis, MD. 52.6 miles along the East Coast Greenway. Just a small section of a 3,000 mile route stretching from Maine to Florida. Simple, right? We think so!
On Sept 5th, 2020, Heather Bauer and Megan McCollum will take on this challenge. However, instead of doing it solely for the pleasure of riding a half century (aka 50 miles for you non-cyclists), we will do it for a cause. We will do the work and you help us in supporting one of our favorite DC charities, the Wanda Alston Foundation (WAF). Anything that you can give to support them would be greatly appreciated by us and WAF. More information on what they do for the community is provided below.
THE RIDERS
Heather and Megan are both residents of Washington, DC who are very active in the local LGBTQ community. Heather has been riding long distance and competing in duathlons for several years, training in both cycling and running for most of her life. Megan is a current DC Rollergirl, and has recently returned to long distance cycling after a few years away from the sport. Both participate in the Chesapeake and Potomac Softball League and Stonewall Climbing , which are leagues that provide a safe place to play and interact in the LGBTQ community. They are super excited to be taking on this challenge and raising money for WAF.
