Ward Hall Preservation Foundation Inc

We are raising funds for the restoration of the mansion, completed in 1857. This 12,000 square foot Greek Revival structure was once offered to be the State Capital of Kentucky in the late 1800's. The needs are great. There is a long list of jobs that need funding. The most expensive job may be the replacement or repair of the exterior front grand entrance stairway, (limestone) which is currently off-limits to visitors due to safety concerns. We received a quote of $435,000 to rebuild the stone steps exactly as was originally built 167 years ago. Ward Hall does not have central heating or air conditioning. We must upgrade the electrical service to a 400 amp capacity. The estimated cost for electrical service upgrade and HVAC is $100,000. The architect was British-born Major Thomas Lewinski, a highly acclaimed and successful architect whose works are attributed to a significant number of Central Kentucky structures still standing today. We are open to the public for tours, and many visitors ask what the plan is for restoration. Proper restoration can only occur with adequate funding.
