Washington, DC Chapter of Concerns of Police Survivors

My name is Rory Monahan. I am a freshman at Kettle Run High School and I was recently accepted into the FBI National Academy Associates Youth Leadership Program. This is a week-long training program that I will attend this summer and I look forward to the experience. Prior to attending the program, I have to complete a service project of my choosing. For the past two years, my sister Darby and I have raised money for the Concerns of Police Survivors (COPS) through the “Laps for Law Enforcement Fundraiser.” I would like to know if you or your organization would be interested in donating to this worthy cause.   

All of the money raised goes directly to COPS which is an organization founded on the premise of remembering the sacrifice of law enforcement officers who were killed in the line of duty, while honoring their survivors. COPS specifically provides resources to assist in the rebuilding of the lives of surviving families and affected coworkers of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty.

Beginning April 26 through May 4, 2019, Darby and I will be swimming laps in honor of the men and women in law enforcement who have paid the ultimate sacrifice and died in the line of duty. Each night we will swim in honor of a specific fallen hero. We will also post daily updates on our progress. Our plan is to present a check to COPS at their survivor breakfast on May 4, 2019 which is prior to Police Week 2019.

Hi! My name is Darby Monahan. I am freshman in high school and I was recently accepted into the FBI National Academy Associates Youth Leadership Program. The program is a week long training at Quantico this summer and I am looking forward to the experience.

In preparation for this training, I have to complete a service project that focuses on a hero of mine. My dad is a police officer and National Police Week just passed. My hero(s) are the men and women of law enforcement who paid the ultimate sacrifice and died in the line of duty.  My service project directly relates to our fallen officers and I need your help.

First of all, I am a competitive swimmer and my project is entitled, “LAPS FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT.” My goal is to swim 34 miles over the next 10 days! 34 miles by the way is the distance from Washington, D.C. to Quantico, VA. That’s the hard part but I am up for the challenge. The easy part is my ask from each of you. Please consider donating to my service project. My goal is to raise a minimum of $2500. All of the money that is pledged I will be donating to the Concerns of Police Survivors (COPS) DC Chapter. COPS was founded on the premise of remembering the sacrifice of law enforcement officers who were killed in the line of duty, while honoring their survivors.

I am beginning the 34 mile swim challenge this evening (May 22, 2017) and I will be posting daily updates on my progress.  Keep in mind that all of the money that is donated goes directly to COPS. Thank you for your consideration!
