Magoo's Shoes 2018
www.magoosshoes.org
There is an old quote that says, “you can’t understand someone until you’ve walked a mile in their shoes.” We at Magoo’s Shoes say there’s no greater way to show some love to a kid that really needs them, than to give them new shoes to walk that mile in.
Once a year, Magoo’s Shoes takes a group of underprivileged kids from our community and buys them a pair of new shoes. Any pair in the store. It’s a magical day. It might be the only time in the year that these kids get something brand new. Something that they are completely free to choose for themselves.
But Magoo’s Shoes is not just about shoes. It is about hope. It is about joy. It is about love. And, for you, it is a chance to give the gift of all the above.
Sometimes it can be easy to forget that, even here in Santa Barbara, there are kids who go to bed hungry and that yearn for so many things many of us consider a basic given.
This will be my seventh year of Magoos. It’s amazing to witness that the magic never ebbs – there are still no dry eyes on Magoo’s Shoes day. (For the grown-ups anyway!)
Once again, Deckers is generously extending us a 50% discount across every shoe they carry. Deckers also hosts the Magoo’s kids at their magnificent Brand Showcase in Goleta. It’s the kind of experience these kids rarely get to have outside of this special day. (Watch us on KEYT News here .) This April, we’d like to get new shoes on 500 kids in Santa Barbara and Goleta.
But it only happens with your help. We need to raise $50 per pair to make this happen. That’s $25,000. Will you help us with that? Can you help us buy a new pair of shoes for a kid who really needs them?
This money is being funneled through the Washington School PTO which is 501 C 3, so your donation is tax deductible. And, because Magoos is all volunteer-run, 100% of your donation goes towards shoes!
Sincerely,
Simon Dixon
