February 4th is World Cancer Day.
This year, I’m finally doing something I’ve promised myself for the past seven years: donating my hair. I’ve chosen to support a local nonprofit called Wigs for Kids , an organization that’s making a real difference in the lives of children experiencing hair loss due to medical conditions. It’s a simple act, but one that not many people do, and I encourage you to join in this movement or support my cause.
For the next month, I will be fundraising for this cause, with the goal of cutting and donating my hair in mid-March. Every contribution, no matter the size, means the world to me. Together, we can make a difference, 1 + 1 = more than 2.
How It All Started:
Back in 2017, I was at one of the lowest points in my life. I felt lost and unsure of where I was headed. That’s when my friend, Weixuan, reached out and encouraged me to join a local fundraising campaign in Singapore called Hair for Hope. I agreed—partly because it was for a good cause and of course some friendly peer pressure. Shaving my head takes a lot of courage, but what I didn’t realize at the time was how much it would change me.
That experience became a light in what felt like an endless tunnel. During the event, I met so many incredible people who were facing cancer and other medical challenges. Their strength and resilience left a lasting impression on me. They reminded me that life is beautiful, fragile, and worth fighting for. If they could face their struggles with such courage, I had no excuse to give up on mine. Their stories stayed with me, even from afar. Now, I want to give back and let them know they’re not alone. This is my way of supporting them, just as they unknowingly supported and inspired me during a time when I needed it most.
To My Dear Friends:
Thank you for taking the time to read this and for considering supporting this cause. Your support means so much to me, and I’m grateful for every bit of it.
To My Friends in Singapore:
If you’re still thinking about donating, I encourage you to support Hair for Hope , a local organization in Singapore doing amazing work. Let me know if you donate—I’ll add your name to my thank-you note, and when I’m back in Singapore, I’ll treat you to bubble tea!
About Wigs for Kids :
Founded in 1981 by Certified Cosmetic Therapist Jeffrey Paul, Wigs for Kids has been helping children experiencing hair loss due to medical conditions like alopecia, trichotillomania, burns, and chemotherapy. They work with hair donors and skilled stylists to create high-quality wigs, which are provided to children completely free of charge.
For these kids, losing their hair isn’t just a physical challenge—it’s an emotional one too. A wig can help restore their confidence and remind them that they’re not alone in their journey.
