On February 29th, there was a horrific incident that shed light on the brutal reality faced by wolves and other wildlife, particularly our native carnivores. These incidents have been happening for decades and continue despite worldwide attention to these atrocities.
What happened that day was nothing short of a nightmare: a wolf was run down with a snowmobile, shock-collared, duct-taped, and brought to a public restaurant and bar where bystanders laughed and filmed the ordeal. This heinous act of torture has finally pierced the minds and hearts of many. The suffering of this wolf, now known as Hope, has become a symbol of the urgent need to stop this cruelty once and for all.
Kristin Combs of Wyoming Wildlife Advocates has seized this moment to drive legislative change along with a core group of advocates.
In collaboration with Jonas Black, bolstered by the public outcry, they traveled to Daniel, WY, the site of this atrocity. There, they brought a message of hope that they will not stop working until the laws are changed to deter people from committing these atrocities.
With the realization that what happened in Wyoming could occur in many other states that lack laws protecting wildlife from this abuse, the "Daniel to DC" campaign was born. With outlaw dog trainer Jonas Black and working alongside Ashley Avis, a renowned filmmaker, awareness for the better treatment of all wildlife will be raised nationally.
