Chief Bowles Massacre Site

Donation protected
The American Indian Cultural Society, a 501 (C) (3), is in ownership of the land where Cherokee Chief John Bowles (Duwali) and his band of Texas Cherokee Indians were massacred during the second day of the Battle of The Neches on July 16, 1839.

We are desperately in need of money in order to continue to maintain this historical site reconized by the Texas State Historical Commission. We do not receive any state support and our organization has become almost insolvent. We need money to build a fence with entry gates. We have a bad problem with tresspassors and vandals who trash the place . We need money to finish building a classroom for educational classes about this period of Texas/Cherokee history. We need money to build a modern restroom for the public.

This location is in Van Zandt County of Texas. It is near Tyler, Texas in Smith County.

All donations will be used for improvements on this property. If you donate, you will receive an honary one-year membership in the American Indian Cultural Society.

Thanks to all who come to our aid.  Every donation will be greatly appreciated.
