What is it were your son, brother, cousin, or friend who was missing? How would you find them?
On March 8, 2016 in between the hours of 2pm and 4pm Chip Michael Campbell was seen for the last time by anyone who knew him. On that fateful day, during that time frame, Chip would walk into a Circle K Gas Station, located at 5462 Stewart St, Milton, FL 32570, use the restroom, then walk out and simply vanish from existence. I am Chip's 1st cousin and this is his story.
Chip was 36 years old at the time of his disappearance. Most people would describe Chip as a “Big Teddy Bear” and one of the “Most Generous” people they know. Although Chip has a rather large family with 5 siblings, most of his life he was raised as an only child, due to the age differences in his siblings. Because of this Chip did not have the same “cousin” interactions that we had growing up. Chip relied of children from school to be his peer support. Chip never met anyone he did not like, but the friends he did have loved him dearly as he did them.
In the December, Chip, who was an Insulin Dependent Diabetic, had allowed a woman to move into the family home, which he alone lived in. She was without a job and “hard on her luck” and Chip was the type of person who would give you the shirt off of his back to help someone in need. In January, while driving, Chip had a diabetic seizure and totaled his car when it hit 2 other cars and stopped when it collided with a store front.
Chip lost both his drivers license and his job because of this accident, as he was unable to drive to and from work. Chip soon applied for Social Security Disability and Food Stamps as his condition worsened. Chip would regularly walk to my mothers home, just a few doors down, and eat with her, as he had no food in his home.
Soon Chip became suspicious of items belonging to him and his started to go missing. He also believed money was being taken from his wallet. He began receiving threatening phone calls and text messages from people. He became in fear of his life and voiced his concerns to his closest friends.
On Saturday March 6, 2016, Chip was seen for the last time by a family member when he was dropped off at his front door.
On March 8, 2016, his roommate posted on Facebook that Chip was missing, the house was left in disarray, Chip's cell phone had been found in a back bathroom with the battery removed and the phone reset to factory settings.
The family immediately filed a police report and thus began our search for Chip. It was a week into our search when we learned Chip had visited that Circle K. This was the last known siting of Chip Michael Campbell.
Now, over a year later, we are renewing our search efforts, just having a new search on May 14, 2017. We are needing help with the cost of these searches. The search and rescue group we are currently working with is not a “non-profit” group, therefore all expenses are paid from our pockets.
Items such as fliers, vests, whistles, two way radios, water, snacks, and even gas to travel to the search areas are desperately needed.
I will make this promise to you, for any of these funds that is spent a copy of the receipt and if applicable a photo of the item will be added to this gofundme account.
In the event of a TIP leading to the discovery of Chip's whereabouts, any unaccounted for remaining funds will be used towards a reward.
