Chortle: BAME or working-class reviewer
Donation protected
There is a dearth of reviewers from working-class and non-white backgrounds at the Edinburgh Fringe.
In a small way to redress the overwhelming middle-class white bias, comedy website Chortle is committed to commissioning at least 20 paid reviews from one reviewer from these groups as part of a bursary scheme.
However, our limited budget does not also stretch to providing accommodation for the writer we select. Last year, one reader set up a crowdfunder to make this opportunity open to even more people, which went on to exceed its target. So we again turn to the same model to cover those additional costs for this year's successful applicant
Should we achieve more than the £500 – or should our bursary winner not require accommodation (as happened last year) any surplus will go to commissioning more reviews from BAME or working-class writers, and to match the fee with a payment towards their accommodation.
All of the money raised goes directly to the reviewer(s) we choose.
