Christians 4 Th heart Procedure

5 days after Christian was born, he underwent his first of what would be three open heart surgeries all before 9 years of age. Christian is an incredibly sweet boy who was born with a very complex heart condition in which he only has a single ventricle in his heart. Under normal conditions, the heart has two lower ventricles that are designated to distribute blood around the body, the left pumping red oxygenated blood through the body and the right pumping deoxygenated blood into the lungs. In Christian's case, his left ventricle did not develop properly, thus pushing all of the responsibility onto only his right ventricle and his lungs to do the extra work. To take these complications to the next level, Christian also has developed Plastic Bronchitis, a condition where leaking lymphatic fluid builds up inside of your lungs and solidifies into these tree branch-like casts that make breathing nearly impossible. This condition is very painful and requires an extensive amount of daily treatment and close watch for any signs of distress that would require him to be rushed to the ER. These casts are continuously getting bigger and stuck in his lungs that prevent him from being able to breathe, so his life and activities are fairly limited. 

Most of his childhood has taken place at Cincinnati Children's Hospital. Although the staff has done and exceptionally well job in taking care of him and watching over him, unfortunately his case is so unbelievably rare that there is only one specialist in the country who is working on a treatment for the conditions that Christian suffers from. Dr. Dori in Philidelphia has been working on a treatment that involves mapping out the lymphatic system and locating the leak that is leading to these casts developing and preventing further complications. This trip is going to be very expensive and his caretaker, Sharon, cannot afford this trip alone. She has devoted her life to caring for her grandson and has happily spent every dollar she has on his care.

Despite all of this, Christian has remained one of the happiest and most selfless and charasmatic children you could ever imagine. He is so happy to enjoy whatever time he is able to have outside or around other people (which is primarily only other adults). There is nothing more genuinely inspiring than the smile of a child who is every right to frown.
