Christy Fowler -Staying Strong
Donation protected
I created this gofundme account to help my best friend, Christy, who is going through Chemotherapy.
Christy recently found out that she has Hodgkins Lymphoma, and has already incurred thousands of dollars in medical bills related to her cancer treatments.
Christy has been my best friend since 3rd grade, and I've never met another person that could match her inner strength, determination, and passion for life. Through the years she's fought hard for an education to better herself and her 3 boys. We were all so happy when she met the love of her life, and recently married John.
I'm not a doctor, and certainly don't understand medical jargon. The following are Christy's words about the devastating news of her cancer diagnosis:
"On October 6th, I received the news that no one wants to hear. After finding a mediastinal mass in my chest that was investigated because of the chronic cough I have had for 2 years, they took a biopsy and we got confirmation that the mass was a malignancy in the form of classical Hodkins Lymphoma. With continued testing and followup appointments, it was confirmed to be stage 2A (A=no symptoms that lead to diagnosis) with the spread cancer being confined to the region above my waist. The mass in my chest was measured at under 10 centimeters, so it should not have been considered bulky, BUT they also determine this based on the size of the mass vs the circumference of the chest causing me to be diagnosed with a bulky stage 2A classical hodgkins lymphoma because the mass is larger or equal to 1/3 of my chest. In addition to the mediastinal mass, I have multiple lymph nodes that have been affected in multiple locations of my chest , mostly above and below the clavical on both the right and left side.
The typical protocol is 4 types of chemo that have terrible long term affects, SO..... I found out about a clinical trial that is the newest treatment course being tested with a success rate that is pretty high and only uses 2 Chemo meds in conjunction with an Antibody. The antibody replaces 2 of the chemo meds and reduces the long term side effects significantly. I opted for the long term side effect reduction because they were intense heart, lung and neurological damage. When I am done with this treatment, I really don't want to have to worry about if my heart is going to stop or if I will develop something else in my lungs. There is of course still that possibility, but it is at least minimal in comparison.
My treatments are scheduled every 14 days and the infusions last about 6 hours. I am very bless to have God working everything out for me in this crazy life of mine! I am a week out from my first treatment and the first few days are brutal! After resting for 3 days, I should be able to work my regular schedule. I pulled it off this week, so I am hopeful. I cannot put into words how thankful I am that you all have been so diligently checking on me!"
This wonderful mother of 3 young boys deserves the world, but this is a good start. Any donation, no matter how small, could add up to be a huge blessing, and just one burden lifted off of her shoulders.
Please share this story with your friends and loved ones.
