Early on Monday, October 29th (2018) our mom, Cindy Little, was in a head-on collision with a Ford Explorer that resulted in a broken neck, legs, collar bone, ribs, sternum, humerus (upper arm), as well as internal injuries. To save her life she underwent several emergency surgeries within the first 72hrs. There will be more surgeries to come.
Upon hearing of her accident, us boys immediately flew/drove to be by our Mom's side during the fight for her life.
Our mom is a tremendous woman. She is the mother of three adult boys (Luke, Bryce, and Jared), the loving grandmother to eight grandchildren (6 Boys, 2 Girls), and a pillar of strength to three daughter’s in-laws. She is astoundingly humble and would be the last person to brag about herself. But we will. As a widower she completed her nursing degree to support her three boys that were in MS/HS at the time her husband (our father) passed away unexpectedly. As an RN she has worked in hospitals and public-school systems and now works in elderly care. Cindy also has tremendous gifts for ministry utilizing her Doctor of Ministry and Master of Divinity (degrees she attained after her boys' successful transition into adulthood) to bless and build up her local church and community. Our mom is 100% a giver.
Moving forward: Her body is too traumatized to get all the necessary medical treatment done at one time. Once the doctors can get her completely stabilized (we'll call it phase 1--the next 3-8 weeks), she will then be admitted to a long-term spinal rehabilitation center. Doctors, Nurses, and Physical Therapists will be available to her 24/7 at the rehab center. We anticipate this second phase of her healing journey to last an additional several months (6 months at minimum).
The purpose of this GoFundMe is to raise money for Cindy's care. Cindy is fully insured so we do not anticipate many major costs beyond her max out of pocket deductible. That said, her sons will need to travel continuously to be by her side and provide her the steady care and support she needs. The doctors have said that keeping her spirits high and her family nearby is crucial to her well-being. Thus, we must manage the next 6-12 months of her life well. To do this, Jared--her youngest--will be bi-coastal and incur a tremendous financial burden to support her (flights, hotels, additional nanny costs, etc.) Luke and Bryce, who live on the east coast, will also incur significant costs to travel and be with her. The care, thus, will provide financial assistance to Cindy and several months travel for her boys and their families (flights, hotels, car rentals, etc.). With the holidays upon us, we want mom to be surrounded by the family she is fighting to stay with and to feel cherished now and into the new year.
