City Reformed stands with Squirrel Hill
Donation protected
In the aftermath of the horrific anti-Semitic attack on three congregations housed in the Tree of Life synagogue on October 27, 2018, City Reformed has decided to take action by showing spiritual and material support for Community Day School. Community Day School is an age 3 to grade 8 Jewish day school in Squirrel Hill that has happily shared its facility with City Reformed Presbyterian Church’s evening service and other faith communities.
With the murderer crying out “all Jews must die” as he entered the building, there is no doubt that this was an anti-Semitic hate crime. Pittsburgh now has the unwanted distinction of being the site of the worst attack against Jews in the history of our country.
Understanding both the painful history of anti-Semitism and that security needs are paramount in schools these days, especially in Jewish schools, our congregation has decided to raise funds to contribute towards security costs at Community Day School.
This school has graciously housed us for years, provided us with a space to worship, provided hospitality, and have become our friends. In addition to our relationship with Community Day School, this school had a particular relationship with Tree of Life Synagogue, sharing their students to pray minion with the Tree of Life Congregants.
We feel that showing support in this way is the most meaningful and practical way to express our deep sympathy and affirm our connection as organizations of faith in the city of Pittsburgh.
The hope is to increase the goal and the goal can be changeable if needed.
