Cody's Femoral Head Ostectomy

Donation protected
Cody is a 6-month-old Pug who recently has been diagnosed with the hereditary disease: Legg-Calve-Perthes. Cody is a registered emotional support dog who is young and full of energy, but ever since the diagnosis he hasn’t been the same. His energy level has decreased, as he can’t walk.  He began to limp recently this month and once we took him to the vet we learned the cost of the surgery. My boyfriend and I are full-time college students and we just paid $360 (half of our rent) to get him diagnosed. Cody currently spends his days inside his kennel, sedated, because he can’t make any harsh movements or it causes him pain. He is currently under medications to control his pain, but without the surgery, he won’t be able to walk. This surgery is the only way for Cody to be able to walk again.

What is Legg-Calve-Perthes disease?

The hip is a "ball and socket" joint. The femoral head is the "ball" part of the joint and if it develops necrosis or dies, it can no longer function properly. Necrosis is due to loss of the blood supply to the femoral head or "ball, which may be the result of a growth abnormality or trauma to the hip.
