Compass Academy Travel Fund

Dear Friends,
In March 2018, Compass Academy's inaugural 8th grade class has the opportunity to experience a 6-day, zero-waste, off-the-grid adventure. This service trip is a natural learning experience that places students in the foothills of the Patagonia Mountains in Arizona, where they will work with local non-profits to better understand the needs of local communities and then work side by side with locals to gain insight into the challenges they face and build lasting solutions to help empower the community.
This is an amazing opportunity for Compass Academy students, many of whom have never had the chance to travel before. Students will not only engage in meaningful service learning and community development; they will also develop their leadership skills, expand their curiosity, deepen their sense of self, and gain new perspectives.
My first travel experience was in 7th grade. I had the opportunity to travel to Quebec, Canada with my French teacher and classmates. I vividly remember so many moments from that trip, including being challenged to speak French with locals and navigate a foreign city. I say with confidence that this experience inspired a sense of adventure within me that to this day lives strongly.
Any donation to this fund will go directly to students' experiences, whether it be funding their airfare, paying for our tour bus or paying for lodging at Windsong Peace and Leadership Center.
Thanks to many amazing donors, we reached our initial goal of funding the initial $95 enrollment deposit for 11 students who are so eager to travel to Arizona. As of November 21st, each of our travelers now has $800 in his/her account! Outside of this campaign, our travel group has been engaging in a number of awesome, fun and quite successful fundraising efforts! Since August, we have been selling chocolates, selling tamales y frutas con chile at lunch, we hosted a silent auction, and we have been reaching out to local businesses for sponsorships. We are looking forward to selling SantaGrams for the holidays - we are arguing over who will get to dress as Santa to deliver them!
We are still in need of $10,000. Help us reach our goal!!
My students, my colleagues and I sincerely thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Celine
