Composition Finalist in Prague!

Donation protected
Greetings!

I need help to get to The Prague (Music) Conservatory in Prague, Czech Republic this July for the Final Round of the International Antonin Dvorak Composition Competition!

I’m Peter Kohrman, an aspiring music composer and conductor.  I have five years of music training (yes, you read that correctly - five years of music training).

On May 20th, I alone was selected to represent the entire United States of America as a Finalist in the Junior Division at the International Antonin Dvorak Composition Competition.

Earlier this year, I submitted one of my original music compositions "Don Juan" to the 8th Annual International Antonin Dvorak Composition Competition.  This competition is open to young composers from around the world. Participants are divided into two groups, juniors and seniors. The junior group consists of those aged 18~23, and the senior group consist of those aged 24~33.  Composition categories include genres of music spanning from classical to modern traditional music (sixteenth century style – twentieth century style) and includes no restrictions in regards to instrumental or vocal works. However, electric and microtonal music are excluded as a rule.

You can find the Announcement of Finalists at this link: http://www.iadcc.kr/news/2716 .  This was a double blind judging and the international judges did not know who wrote the piece or which country they live in.  While in Prague, the finalists will be locked in a room for five days to write two new pieces of music which will be judged by the jury.  Winners will have their works played live at the final concert!

This is a fantastic honor and opportunity to represent the United States in this division. To compete as a finalist, I physically have to go to Prague in the Czech Republic for the Final Round of this pretigious competition. Since my father recently had an unplanned, emergency hospitalization, I now have unexpected expenses so that I can compete in the Final Round.

Your help is greatly needed for me to participate in this once in a lifetime opportunity. Your support, however much you are financially comfortable with providing, will be greatly appreciated. By sharing this link and GoFundMe page, you will help give me a fighting chance to represent the United States within my division at the final event in Prague. Otherwise, our country will not be represented in the Junior Division.

The funds I am requesting will help cover the airfare and the laptop needed to run the composition software I use. I have a desktop I normally use for this purpose, but that doesn't fit in the overhead storage bin very well. Ideally, it would be fantastic to share this opportunity with my mother. She has sacrificed a lot to help me with my musical endeavors, and being able to come along to document and share in this wonderful experience would mean the world to her. Moms are brought along to the Olympics, so why not here as well?

At the very least, half of the GoFundMe goal ($4000) will get me to Prague (room and board are provided for the contestants) and the laptop. The stretch goal of $8000 will cover my expenses and the travel and lodging for my mom to come along.

So please, spread the word and share as much as you are comfortable for this cause. Help me represent our great country at this prestigious event.
