I spent my undergrad and graduate career extolling the virtue of steampunk literature and how it can be an incredibly effective tool for discussing racism, colonialism, gender inequalities and the conflicts between technology and the environment in our contemporary society. As such, during my undergrad, I wrote a paper for a literature class that was incredibly well-received and ended up inspiring my podcast. That paper has now been accepted for presentation at the Asylum Steampunk Festival in Lincoln, England in August 2018. When I submitted for the conference, I honestly did not believe that I would be chosen so this was an unbelievable surprise. As a grad student, I am not terribly wealthy and I am also moving this summer so my finances are already incredibly strapped but having the opportunity to attend this conference would be an amazing experience, and I think it would be an incredible way to kick off my future career as a steampunk librarian!
