Pipeline Exhibit: Pachinko Pagoda
Donation protected
This art exhibit is in my family's backyard....two minutes away: at the Terminus of the recently approved Kinder Morgan Transmountain Line. I moved here to breathe the air and live near clean water. This is threatened exponentially now.
I seek to express my right as a citizen on common public lands. I am an artist: this exhibit examines, illustrates and forces the relationship between the rights of a citizen, and the rights of a "common carrier" - a company that is designated by today's government as having some kind of right to use the lands of Crabtown for a specific purpose - the export of heavy bitumen.
The Crabtown Pachinko Pagoda is a temporary exhibition slated to be constructed on the proposed right-of-way for the Kinder Morgan Pipeline expansion. The exhibit will take place in Confederation Park over the course of April 2017.
The physical project will consist of a set of 5 inter-locked, functional, backlit pachinko machines; creating a five sided photography pagoda; engaging viewers in a situation of chance while being challenged to consider context of the surrounding location, its present space, and proposed future use.
