When Craig was first diagnosed with an aggressive form of Stomach Cancer in August 2017 and sadly past away in April 2018 after a very noble fight, I was constantly asked, ' what can I do ? Before Craig passed, he handed me his unfinished Bucket List, which he wanted me to continue for our children. You have this preconceived idea, that when someone is dealt a terminal Cancer card, they can go and create memories, plan holidays, experience different adventures and leave memories behind for their loved ones. But for a lot of cancer patients, this is not the case. Whether, it be for monetary reasons or for health reasons, it just doesn’t work out that way. Our children were lucky enough to be able to have these memories. They have stories to tell and experiences to share. These memories will mean that Craig will never be forgotten. I can not stress enough how very important these memories are to the children that are left behind when a parent passes away from Cancer.
Along with Craig's passing we also lost a beautiful friend Frances McGrath to Cancer in July this year. Frances also created these memories for her girls. It was so important to her. These memories are what they now hold dear. Too many families are effected by Cancer and so much money and time goes into finding a cure but will there ever be one ? What about those families who are struggling now ? Research isn’t going to help them.
So 'What Can You Do' ? This is what we can all do.
Dreams2Live4 makes dreams come true for patients who are living with metastatic cancer. Their dreamers have had the devastating diagnosis of cancer, followed by the gut wrenching news that it has returned and is terminal. Living with metastatic cancer can be an overwhelming and grueling battle. Dreams2Live4 empowers these patients to dream and find purpose again. It is the only charity of its type in Australia for adult patients. Dreams2live4 create these memories. These memories that our children hold so dear. They create these memories for dreamers who financially are unable to create these for themselves.
An average experience or holiday for a family with a parent who has metastatic cancer is $2000. Lets make these experiences happen. Last year Dreams2live4 worked with more than 450 patients and their families in hospitals across Australia. A dream is coming true every 48 hours.
So as we tick off Craig's Bucket List one experience at a time, as we host the mini day out and rally across this beautiful country, lets all join together to help create these memories for children who's terminally ill parent isn't able too !
Craig and Frances would be so very proud of their children, for the way they are copping, for the way they are helping each other heal and for the way that Emerson, Harry, Holly, Avy and Ella have been so strong in wanting to help children in the same situation as them selves.
100% of the money raised will be handed to Dreams2live4 at the end of the Outback Rally at the end of July 2019.
