Kaufman Kill Pen Mini Rescues

For those inquiring about our CRS Rescue Horse Page, and this new Go Fund Me Account...

Thank you for considering donation! My mom and I just found these adorable horses a few days ago on FB at the Kaufman Kill Pen. We found out it was near friends of ours in Texas and they said they would pick up any we could save. So we bought 8 horses (6 minis, 1 pony cross and 1 QH weanling) from the Kill Pen. They were picked up Saturday (12/19/2015) from Kaufman Kill Pen in Forney Texas, and taken to my friends house for 30 day quarantine, before they travel to California (where we live). Yesterday (12/21/2015) the Original Kaufman 8 were all seen by Millsap Vet Clinic, blood drawn for coggins, health exams, given antibiotics since they are all sick, and dewormed.

As the deadline for the Kaufman Kill Pen approached, we desperatley kept watching the site, and gratefully we were seeing many horses being sold/safe. There were about 11 miniature ponies still left yesterday (12/21/2015), so we called our hauler and friend and decided we would be able to rescue 3 more. Thankfully checking back in this morning (12/22/2015) the remaining minis were sold/safe!

The final 3 we purchased from Kaufman Kill Pen 12/21, were picked up Wednesday (12/23/2015) and taken directly to the Millsap Vet Clinic for their coggins, health exams and antibiotics. Toffee Delight & Jack Frost were sick but cleared. Wynter Wysh was by far the most sick and she is under observation. With yellow gums, if she does not eat or drink, she will have to have more blood work drawn and we will have to figure what our plan for her wellness will be.

All 11 ponies have now been seen by the vet, and they will have some time to Rest and Recouperate at our friends house. As the 30 days quarantine comes to an end, we will be getting Health Certificates done so they can travel to California. When they arrive, we have a few Foster homes set up so that we can get ponies settled, have more one on one contact with them, get vaccinations up to date, have the farrier come and trim/shod/shoe, and have our Equine Denist come check their teeth situations. One yearling colt still needs to be gelded, so after all their health needs are Up To Date, we will check everyone for unspoken pregnancies and let the ponies rest. We are hoping by the end of February, we will be able to have assessed each ponies individual needs, so we can find their forever home.

I am delighted in all the interest and support we are receiving, and please bear with us, we have a few months with our journey before we figure out what kind of home is suitable for each horse, assess their abilities and get them to health. Re-homing fees will roughly be around $750 depending on each horse and what money we are able to raise. We are only calculating the cost we are putting in, we are not here to make a profit.

I will keep posts and pictures of progress of the ones we saved, as well as make announcements for who is ready to find their forever homes. We will require people interested in being Permenant Homes for these minis, to provide references of Vets, Farrier, Boarding Facilities, etc. We want to make sure these ponies end up in FOREVER homes, and with wonderful, loving people who will cherish them until the day the cross over rainbow bridge. It is in our best hope that we are able to do this annually from various Kill Pens/Sales/Auctions to try and help a little. We have our own personal businesses to run, and if we have a success this year, we will be delighted to continue helping ❤

Thank you all, and Happy Holidays!!
