Fire Destroys a Family's Home
On Saturday, February 24 at roughly 6:00am, Rich and Jessica Culbertson, their daughter Emma along with their three Merritt Centennial hockey billets, awoke to fire raging within their home. With only minutes to spare they escaped the inferno only to watch the flames totally destroy their home. A kind neighbour invited them inside his home, provided them with clothes , shoes and shelter, while reality began to set in.
They lost everything. Everything ! All their personal and household belongings were gone. While most identification, clothing and personal effects can, and will be replaced; memorabilia, photographs, gifts and family treasures can not.
The six of them are safe surrounded by their families. They want to thank all the members of their extended families, their friends and the hockey fans for their support and kind wishes at this very difficult time.
As well a big thank you goes to the Merritt Fire Department whose hard work kept the fire contained to the house, saving the outbuildings and vehicles parked near by.
Rich, Jessica, Emma and the boys are facing a long and emotional road ahead of them as they begin to replace and rebuild. They all understand they are lucky to have survived this tragedy. They are, however, going to need some assistance as they get back on their feet. If you could help in any way, they sincerely thank you. It won't be forgotten and will be most appreciated.
