Cycling Croatia for PAGEANT
Donation protected
This summer, Fedor Stürken and I will be doing a sponsored cycle ride along the length of Croatia in aid of PAGEANT, a small UK charity based in Gambia.
Our trip:
The actual journey is from Split to Pula (450km) and we will be cycling from 16th to 22nd August. Payed for with our own money, we will be taking only our bikes and sleeping bags and we plan to do most of the trip relatively unplanned. The idea of this was to not only experience some of Croatia's culture, but also to challenge ourselves as we look forward to life after school (/after Christs Hospital).
The charity:
PAGEANT stands for Projects Aiding Gambian Education And Natural Talent and it does what it says really. Gambia has a structured education system but the pupils have to pay for their own expenses (books, food, travel etc.). This means poorer children are often unable to go to school or can't make the full use of it if they get there. Providing education is the best and most efficient way to improve living standards in developing countries and this is the true goal for PAGEANT.
Where the funds will go:
The charity has strong links to our school (Christs Hospital) and every year a group of pupils go out to Gambia to help with some of the projects as well as take suitcases full of stationary and other supplies. There is a small chance that, if we raise enough, we will go out to Gambia ourselves and repeat the trip that our peers will make; we would volunteer for a week, helping out in the schools and with some of PAGEANT's projects as well as bring stationary and other equipent with us. However, most likely we will just be giving the money straight to the charity which will be just as much of a help to the charity.
We put £2000 as the goal as we think its an acheivable target and one that will make a massive impact, but any donations at all would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks for reading and thank you in advance for any donations.
