Gr8 Eight
Donation protected
The Gr8 Eight evolved when eight young women (based in various international locations as well as the US) took a group trip to Haiti with the same vision to give back. Gr8 Eight's first service drop delivered personalized bags full of comfort items (pajamas, toys, socks, books, and blankets) to 75 children at the Brebis Orphanage. The owner, Miss. Margarette Saint Fleur, does not only spend her days managing the orphanage, but also runs a school, Brebis Saint Michel de l'Attalaye (BRISMA), located in Delmas. This is an elementary-high school that is sponsor-based and currently has 200 students. The school prioritizes single-parent families who have no option but to give up their children to adoption, and families that live in tents or huts within the poorest communities. In Haiti, only approx 50% of children can attend school, other children end up doing hard labor, are in the streets, put up for adoption, or given to Restavek—a form of slavery. Gr8 Eight listened to Margarette’s moving story and the necessities her students have difficulty obtaining, which ranges from school supplies, to clothes, and food.
To avoid any children from being left behind, Gr8 Eight’s goal will be focused on sponsoring the children at BRESMA. With your help, students will have the opportunity to attend a quality school, with access to sanitary items and school supplies. The yearly cost to sponsor a child to attend school is USD $360 ($30 a month). Our goal is to raise enough money to sponsor as many students for the school year 2016-2017. We are also welcoming donations for school supplies (books, pens, paints etc) in addition to sanitary items such as soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, underwear, towels and slippers. All donations will be delivered personally by one of our team members.
Gr8 Eight plan to engage in service work outside of Haiti also. Each year will be a new fundraising goal and project in various geographic locations. Many of us live extremely fortunate lives with every resource imaginable at our fingertips. There are many others where the world isn't the same to them. Empathy is at the forefront to giving back, however our team feel that the real value is being able to ‘Empower and Educate’ those who are less fortunate to help themselves and in turn their families and communities. The beauty of the word possibility is that it never ends…This is also the true beauty in giving back whether you are on the giving or receiving end…We all gain a little (or a lot) of something along the way.
